Over two dozen federal agencies including the US Army, Navy, Air Force, FBI, NASA, and FAA attended the Idea Tuesday collaboration web conference on February 3, 2009. Entitled "The Federal Knowledge Management Initiative Roadmap."Mr. Neil Olonoff of KM.gov summarized the status of the effort to form an official center for Knowledge Management (KM) in the Federal Government. The mission of the KM Center is to enact policies, standards, and practices to help improve knowledge management throughout government and prevent future disasters such as 911, Katrina, and the Shuttle failure. The presentation is available in Slideshare.
As one non-government attendee distinctly summarized the experience:
“I am very excited that the government is looking at KM as a disciplined approach to managing the vast amounts of knowledge resident in the heads of vast numbers of federal employees and mired deep within the virtual chasms of the government's online presence. It is incredibly exciting to be on the ground floor of what will surely make an incredibly positive impact on our country.”
Idea Tuesday is a weekly event open to all professionals in the Enterprise Content and Knowledge Management Industries.
